Goodbye Twitter

9 September 2019Twitter Social Freelance

I've been using Twitter for some time now, and am a casual tweeter using it only to keep up to date with the latest trends in design and development. But lately, I just can't be bothered with it.

Twitter depresses me. It's become a medium for criticism, negativity and hate and a platform I would rather not be a part of. I guess it's just a result of the world we live in today.

Moreover, my timeline is now composed of people I don't even follow, pictures of cats, and topics I have no interest in whatever.

It has now been a couple of weeks since I last used Twitter, but after some toing and froing, I've decided to remove the app from my phone and leave it at that. I used to spend hours trawling through my timeline, but now it feels so good not having to. Instead, I now spend this extra time more productively by browsing through design-related books, online magazines, and watching design interviews on youtube.

I'll still keep my Twitter account active, but I just won't be using it. And, if Twitter ever becomes the pleasure it was a few years back, then I may reconsider coming back.

With Twitter deleted, I've found myself using the Google News app more and more on my phone as an alternative to keeping up to date, and the good thing is that it lets me choose the news I want to see. So far, it's been very accurate with the content it has returned to me.

And, I think I'll continue my process of killing a few other social services with LinkedIn up next on the list. I never kept it up to date anyway, and I'm sure I'm not alone there.

So for now, Twitter, goodbye.
